Paradise (2013-2014)
This series is a result of steadily recording the process of disappeared for the redevelopment area of ​​Jongno-gu in Seoul from 2013 to 2014. At the time, I tried to create a new visual language for the space of memory throughout the The Night Watch series (2011-2017). If The Night Watch series was a visualization in the dark invisible scenery which implied to memories that do not recognize, the Paradise series is the opposite of how vivid memories and trails that are not yet ready to be forgotten or disappear, This is a question of how memory and time gradually disappear.

If the space disappear, will memory disappear as well? The traces piled up as thick as the time you have left are fragmented, broken, scattered and disappearing, and new memories will grow again. This series of photographic works reveal the state of abandoned places where no one dwells, and the splendor of future spirits and promises, but they do not yet exist. Through this series of photographs, I wanted to reflect on my memory.

이 시리즈는 2013년부터 2014년까지 밤에 서울시 종로구 돈의문 일대가 재개발을 위해 사라지는 과정을 꾸준히 기록한 결과물이다. 당시 진행하고 있던 The Night Watch 시리즈 (2011-2017) 를 통해 기억이라는 공간에 대한 새로운 시각적 언어를 생성하고자 하였는데 나에게 기억이란 존재하고 있지만 인지하지 못하는 공간이다.  The Night Watch 시리즈가 어둠 속 보이지 않는 풍경을 통해 존재하지만 인지하지 못하는 기억을 시각화 한 작업이었다면 Paradise 시리즈는 반대로 아직 잊혀질 준비가 되지 않은 생생한 기억과 흔적이 어떻게 일시에 사라져 가는지, 강제로 철거되는 공간이 어떻게 기억과 시간을 서서히 소멸 해 나아가는가에 대한 질문이다. 

공간이 사라지면 기억도 사라질까? 버텨온 시간만큼이나 두텁게 쌓인 흔적들은 파편화 되어 부서지고 흩어져 사라지고 그곳은 다시 새로운 기억이 자라날 것이다.  또한 아무도 거주하지 않는 버려진 곳의 장소성과 앞으로의 장빛및 약속이 가득하지만 아직 존재하지 않는 비장소성이 공존하고 있는 상태를 드러내고 있는 이 사진 작업 시리즈를 통해 장소와 비장소 사이에 표류하는 현대인들의 삶과 기억을 반추해 보고자 하였다.
